OK, the _bikes_ aren't new, but getting a streetable one is
I _just_ did learn that for 2006, the TE and SM competion machines are 50 state DoT legal!!!
This means you can buy a full on, out of the box, competition machine and get a plate on it!!!
How freakin cool is that!!!
No more underpowered, heavy 'trail bikes' to dual sport or watered down SMs!!!

Some thoughts about the VIN No. on the HP2S's.
Are they numbered in any particular order?
I got mine in the last week of march and the VIN has the last four digits .0089.
But others that was built after has numbers that are lower than this.
Anyone has any clues about this? Is it some BMW standard sequence?

Jonas I think you will find that Euro bikes are numbered differently from USA bikes. There will be a difference due country requirements.

From what I've seen, the VINs for HP2S that stay in Europe are ZS600XX while those heading to the U.S. are ZS700XX. So far, the highest numbered HP2S I've heard of here in the U.S. is #57. Perhaps they'll get to a total worldwide production of maybe 200-250 made this year?

Just as a note, these all show on BMW's list as US spec ABS equipped bikes manufactured on July 9/10 2009. Do you know if they were officially brought into the country (by a BMW distributor) or by a "gray market" importer?

I always been a BMW owner/supporter..sometimes this is good.
Anyway, I was up North picking up a trackbike for a buddy at a salvage yard. I happened to be wearing a BMW hat. The salvage yard owner noticed and said 'I got somethin you need to see". The rest is history, I bought it low, put a wheelbarrel of cash into it, did ALL the work myself..and still came out okay. It had 900 miles on it then. it has 5400 on it now and one trackday under my ownership. So we have officially bonded.

That's very cool, good for you. Did you get the racing bodywork from Catalyst? I was amazed at the great prices for their stuff, a complete re-body and respary is less than the stock belly pan!!
I wanted mine in the Motorsport colors, so I decided to take off all the original and madly expensive carbon stuff, pack it nicely and tuck it away in the attic. The Catalyst kit with paint by John @ Finishing Touch will be my 'everyday wear'.

No, I got my parts from flEaBay (worldwide search) or the dealer or networking with friends. So she looks showroom stock. Truthfully when I took on this project I didn't know of these other sources.
