In this week's issue of MCN, on sale August 19, we have a world exclusive track test of the BMW S1000RR. According to our tester, it feels more powerful than a Yamaha R1 and makes the Honda Fireblade's suspension feel rubbish in comparison.
Yikes!

More information once the article comes out...

World exclusive riding impressions of the new BMW sports bike shows it can lap Brno 3 secs faster than a Fireblade.
3 seconds!! That's a slaughter!!!

Seeing as the fireblade is THE gold standard for literbike handling and manners, and the new R1 the torque response machine...this thing is going to blow away the marketplace. So much for exclusivity, but don't think we'll care while riding our S-bikes

I've inquired wiht Bauer Media (the company that owns MCN) about republishing the article in part or whole along with how folks overseas (which is most of us) can subscribe to the magazine. I'm just waiting for confirmation from them.

Incidentally, it's not online at all.

For 50 bucks, I'll post a YouTube video of me reading the article aloud, bedtime story style...

yeah it'd be Desmosedici-priced, but I always did wonder why Honda didn't do a V-5 literbike - a street version of their 1000cc MotoGP bike. That engine is truly something special. I say so because it's always nice to see good tech go to the public (and the V-5 is a very elegant piece of engineering)...and that's what it would take to upstage the S1000RR and even the Yamaha R1!!!

Yamaha has the torquey crossplane crank. BMW has the Formula 1 screamer valvetrain plus gizmos galore. Surely Honda, Suzuki and Kawasaki have got to come up with something?? Even Ducati might have to respond.

Interesting discussion. The BMW will no doubt outshine the rest of its competition. The bottom line is the power, with the ABS/DTC unparalleled in the industry. Can't wait to read the head to head tests. I'll be riding one in 2010 at a track in Fl.

Honda et al are in a period of economic withdrawal. The financial crisis has hit everybody hard. That said, they have a new V4 VFR available soon. That test will also be interesting. But a "prototype-based" V-5 is probably on a drawing board somewhere in Nippon as we discuss this. There has never been a better time to be a rider than now!

Fact is, it's about time BMW have built an "M" Class Superbike. They have put lots and lots of their hopes and dreams into this bike, and I don't think they'll fail. I've seen and heard the responses from the newly chosen demographic at Miller, Laguna Seca and at certain "bike night" events with Gary Hardin, Mr. West Coast S1000RR, in attendance with the superb machine.

And, although details are not officially released, everybody interested will probably have the opportunity to ride the bike on the track as early as next year.

A production Honda 1000cc V5 based on the MotoGP RCV211 would seriously get me thinking about opening my wallet. That has to be one of the most innovative and clever engines ever.

I've got more money into the S1000RR (I've actually started paying for it before it arrives, swinging by every once in awhile and plunking down more money into my deposit - as if it'll make it arrive sooner). I am totally insane. I can't wait for this bike, I am dying!!!

I stopped by my dealer on Saturday for a coffee and a quick chat, and rode away with an S1000RR baseball cap. It's nice...

Disclaimer: I wasn't wearing it when I rode away - it was in my top box.

So, the S1000RR made a stop over at my dealership... got to hang out with Gary Hardin, the West Coast Ambassador, and chatted with some of the regulars and curious minded that stopped by.

Gotta admit, I've confirmed my pre-order and definitely looking forward to the bike even more.
